How we calculate your walk-in shower cost

We price the project line by line: demolition, cabinetry or fixtures, finishes, labor, permits, and a contingency buffer. Every line has its own low and high unit price, so the range you see comes from real spread in the market, not a flat percentage. Labor is then adjusted by state, and materials move far less by location than labor does.

Unit prices are national benchmark ranges last reviewed September 2026. Treat the result as a planning number for setting a budget and judging contractor bids. It is not a quote. Read our full methodology.

Walk-in shower cost FAQs

How much does a walk-in shower cost?

A prefab acrylic shower often costs $4,000 to $8,000 installed. A custom tile shower commonly lands between $8,000 and $14,000, and stone or oversized showers cost more.

Does the estimate include demolition?

Yes, when the removal option is on. Taking out a tub or old shower is a real cost that is often left out of rough quotes.

What makes a curbless shower cost more?

The floor usually has to be recessed so water drains without a threshold. That takes extra labor and sometimes framing changes.

Is frameless glass worth it?

It costs more than framed glass or a curtain, but it has a cleaner look and fewer spots for mold to build up. It is a style and cleaning choice.

Should I get multiple contractor quotes?

Yes. Get at least three itemized quotes and ask specifically how the shower will be waterproofed.
